Press reaction to The Mission Sessions has been positive.
“Tracks such as The Business Enterprise (My Friend John), Insomnia, Damien, and
Just What the Sucker Wanted ooze varying states of funkiness… (and) have travelled well”…
Tony Clayton-Lea: The Irish Times.
“There is a cohesion and sense of unity (in The Mission Sessions) that ties it together and signifies a band still in fine fettle” – Lauren Murphy: The Irish Times.
Among the major highlights of the experience of completing the first full-length album with Those Nervous Animals (after a good few years edging in that direction) were the laughs. The band always had fun and gentle teasing, there was a particular crazy and absurd band humour that the passing years had clearly not diminished. Once we were back together, even if only online, it was just as sweetly mad as ever. Another was reestablishing some old connections. We were delighted to hook up again with Maria Murray, who designed the cover for the 45 release of The Business Enterprise (My Friend John), and also worked on a (now lost) amimated video for the song. Through various old connections (thanks, people) we were put back in touch with Maria and she did some lovely work on the design of the new album (Niall McCormack did layout and graphic work too). One of the much anticipated moments will be to actually see the printed version of the work of Maria and Niall (with a little input from Padraig). We are grateful also to the expertise and advice of old friends Philip Begley and Bill Whelan, who have been a great support. Great to be back in touch.
So… at long last, despite lockdown, despite everything, we have an album release! We are very proud and happy to have worked with an Irish manufacturing service, Dublin Vinyl, thanks to Aisling there who has been a great help. Spread the word everyone, the Animals are back with a bang. We are very proud of the record, we have a lot of other songs but we think this set hangs together well. We hope you love it. Thanks to all the DJ’s who have been playing our music, and we hope to see everyone very soon in person.
